Last night, Ruben Amorim undoubtedly sent a message to England. Appointed coach of Manchester United last week, the Portuguese technician, who will leave Sporting during the international break to join the Premier League, faced his first English opponent yesterday, and not the least: Manchester City. And to everyone’s surprise, he simply defeated the reigning champion in Portugal by losing largely with a score of 4-1 thanks to the inevitable Viktor Gyokeres.
“Viktor must stay until the end of the season”
The Swedish striker, who has been tearing up the house for two years with Sporting, is in the sights of the biggest teams on the old continent, including Manchester United, Amorim’s next club. Facing the media yesterday, he was logically asked about a possible transfer of the Swede to England, but he wanted to calm everyone: “Viktor Gyökeres to Manchester United in January? I respect Sporting. Viktor must stay until at the end of the season… and then maybe go elsewhere I won’t make any jokes about it, I respect this club and it’s my city,” he said. A way to calm the rumors… for just a few weeks.
