Olympic Games 2030: Hockey will arrive in Nice
On July 24 in Paris, a few hours after the designation (then under conditions) of the French Alps for the 2030 Olympic Games, the entire French camp was able to rejoice and congratulate each other during an evening at the Pavillon Dauphine, a stone’s throw from the Palais des Congress where the 142nd session of the IOC was held. If the world of skiing was well represented, that of hockey was naturally part of the celebration with Pierre-Yves Gerbeau, president of the French Ice Hockey Federation (FFHG) and his predecessor Luc Tardif, now at the head of the International Federation ( IIHF). The former Chamonix striker was delighted with this announcement. “It’s great for hockey,” he said then, delighted to see the exhibition of his discipline in Nice. “ The two ice rinks in the stadium (Allianz Riviera) is a good thing. We are the main ticket provider for the Olympic Games.”
Especially since after Milan-Cortina 2026, the IIHF also reached an agreement with the powerful NHL, the North American league, to release the puck stars for the Olympic fortnight. The stars are already enjoying the idea of playing on the shores of the Mediterranean, in ephemeral ice rinks installed in the Allianz Arena stadium. And the Blues will be there, they who have been deprived of an Olympic meeting since 2002 (in Salt Lake City). On September 1, Yorick Treille’s troops failed again in the last round of the qualifying tournament (TQO) against Latvia. But, if Russia is still excluded for the next Olympics, the Tricolores will be the first drafted for Milan. France will also host the 2028 World Cup, organized in Paris (Accor Arena) and Lyon (LDLC Arena).
