(Edmonton) Despite the return to play of Connor McDavid, the Edmonton Oilers lost 4-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday.

McDavid was held off the scoresheet and the Oilers suffered a second straight loss.

The Golden Knights scored three goals in the third period to sign their first road victory this season.

Noah Hanifin scored twice for the Nevada team. Jack Eichel and Mark Stone also scored, while Adin Hill stopped 27 shots to win.

Eichel, like Ivan Barbashev, finished the match with three points and a differential of +3.

In the loss, Stuart Skinner made 31 saves.

Predators 2 – Capitals 3

Alexander Ovechkin gave his team victory with his winning goal.

Alexander Ovechkin scored the winning goal in the third period for the Capitals, who defeated the Nashville Predators 3-2 in Washington.

Ovechkin accepted a pass from Dylan Strome from behind the net to score his 861e career goal. He needs 34 goals to surpass Wayne Gretzky for first place in National Hockey League (NHL) history.

Ovechkin also obtained an assist. He collected at least one point in a fifth straight game.

Connor McMichael and Aliaksei Protas also found the back of the net for the Capitals, who have won four of their last five games. Logan Thompson signed a sixth victory in as many games this season by stopping 33 pucks.

Juuso Parssinen and Steven Stamkos scored for the Predators, who are tied for 31ste rank in the overall league standings with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Juuse Saros gave up three times on 36 shots.

Red Wings 4 – Blackhawks 1

Joe Veleno was one of the Red Wings’ four scorers.

Cam Talbot posted an excellent performance with 28 saves and the Detroit Red Wings easily defeated the Blackhawks 4-1 in Chicago.

Alex DeBrincat, Dylan Larkin, Joe Veleno and Andrew Copp threaded the needle in this second consecutive victory for the Red Wings after three straight losses.

Nick Foligno was the only player to shine the red light for the Blackhawks, who were trying to win a third game in a row.

Petr Mrazek allowed three goals on 24 shots in the loss.
