Habib Beye will have all the trouble in the world to land the position of coach of Stade Rennais. And for good reason, a new competitor has set up and not just any competitor.
Habib Beye is among the many coaches considered in the French club’s shortlist to succeed Julien Stéphan. This challenge would attract the Senegalese technician, who has already expressed his ambition to lead a team in Ligue 1. While the Breton club refines its options, the track of Jorge Sampaoli is gaining importance. The 64-year-old Argentine coach, with a past at Sevilla FC, OM, and at the head of the Argentine and Chilean selections, has been available since his departure from Flamengo in September 2023. His record at Marseille, where he took the reins in March 2021 after the departure of André Villas-Boas and the reshuffle with the arrival of Pablo Longoria, is solid: a fifth place in Ligue 1, then a second place and a semi-final in the Europa Conference League one year later.

Currently 13th in Ligue 1, Rennes is going through a difficult period, illustrated by a heavy 4-0 defeat against Auxerre, its fifth in ten games, which calls into question Stéphan’s position. Several profiles are therefore studied, including Patrick Vieira, Habib Beye, who knows Ligue 1 well, the Franco-Canadian Wilfried Nancy (currently with the Columbus Crew) and Sampaoli, each bringing a different approach.
