Stan Wawrinka (ATP 148) did not make it past the first round at the ATP 250 tournament in Belgrade. The Vaudois veteran was beaten 6-4 6-4 in 1 hour 23 minutes by the Serbian Laslo Djere (ATP 141).

A break in each set was enough for Djere to secure the victory. Wawrinka (39) benefited from three break points which he was unable to convert. Both men had received a wild card for this tournament.

Still ranked 33rd in the world in January, Djere has had a very difficult season since. This success against the Swiss is only his eighth on the ATP Tour in 2024. For his part, Wawrinka remains at ten victories. The improvement seen recently in Stockholm (semi-final) and Basel (round of 16) already seems to belong to the past.
