Fenerbahçe beat Trabzonspor in the final moments of an eventful encounter. José Mourinho, coach of the Istanbul club, then said all the bad things he thought about refereeing in Türkiye.
Jose Mourinho let loose this Sunday after Fenerbahçe’s victory against Trabzonspor (2-3). First following Sofyan Amrabat’s goal in the 90th… +12, right at the end of stoppage time: the Portuguese coach offered a slide, a roll and quite a show to celebrate this now unexpected victory.
But after the meeting, stop smiling: Mourinho destroyed Turkish football as a whole. Starting with the VAR referee: “The referee on the pitch was a little boy, the real man of the match is Atilla Karaoglan, the referee in charge of the video. On behalf of all the fans: we we no longer want him, on the pitch or in VAR,” he declared at a press conference in comments relayed by beIN Sports.
“I was told this before I arrived, but it’s even worse than I thought. I partly blame the people at Fenerbahçe, who only told me half the truth. If I had known that, I would not have come to Turkey,” says Mourinho. “We’re playing against a system. They don’t even try to hide.”
The Special One was particularly unhappy with a red card not given to Trabzonspor: “What was Karaoglan doing? Was he sleeping? Was he drinking Turkish tea? There are only these two explanations”, complains the Portuguese. “He was very awake to give Trabzonspor two penalties that the referee didn’t see.”
For José Mourinho, Turkish football is suffering from this arbitration: “It’s not my country, but I work here so I care. And the Turks should denounce this, because outside here, no one wants to watch Turkish football because of that.”
