The New York Islanders suffered a 5-2 loss to their Big Apple rivals, the Rangers, on Sunday, but for Kyle Palmieri, it wasn’t just the loss that hurt.

The veteran striker needed several stitches to sew up part of his upper lip. The Islanders player was hit by the stick of a rival who had just completed the motion of his throw in the first period.

Palmieri returned to the bench at the start of the next period, but with a severe cut from his lip to his nose.

However, this injury was not going to prevent him from playing, and he proved it by setting up Brock Nelson’s goal at the end of the second period. Fearing nothing, he dove towards Igor Shesterkin’s net and it was his teammate who finished the maneuver.

The Rangers, however, never looked back and won thanks to Artemi Panarin’s double. Mika Zibanejad had three assists and Shesterkin made 35 saves.
