Algeria Football – For the African Golden Ball award for the year 2024 (CAF Awards), Morocco receives very bad news.
The title of African Player of the Year 2024, which will be awarded on December 16 in Marrakech, Morocco, promises to be particularly contested, with a list of candidates which testifies to a renewal in African football. Victor Osimhen, crowned African Player of the Year 2023, is not among the contenders this time, thus paving the way for new rising stars.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected ten players, among whom some promising names stand out and among the favorites, Ademola Lookman, in great shape with Atalanta, and Serhou Guirassy, who is impressing in the Bundesliga, seem best placed to succeed Osimhen, Soufiane Rahimi, whose performances with Al-Ain arouse admiration, and Achraf Hakimi, pillar of the Morocco team, also feature well.
This edition is distinguished by the absence of big figures like Sadio Mané and Riyad Mahrez, which suggests intense competition. The selection period, which covers performances from January to October 2024, adds an additional dimension to this fight for the title.
The final choice of voters will be decisive in knowing Osimhen’s successor. The diversity of talent on this list shows that African football continues to grow and attract attention on the international stage.
