HC Davos (National League) and HC Chur (Swiss League) may play in different championships, but there is still a strong rivalry between the two Graubünden clubs. The limits of what is acceptable were crossed on Saturday. Around twenty fans wearing Davos colors attacked the Chur supporters’ bus.
The scene took place in the afternoon in front of the Chur ice rink, while the bus was ready to leave for Weinfelden, where the team led by the Von Arx brothers (two legends of HC Davos) was to face HC Thurgau.
According to 20 Minuten, children were in the vehicle at the time of the incident and were very frightened by what happened. A Chur fan was injured after being punched in the face.
The organizing club of the Spengler Cup reacted very quickly. “We condemn the unnecessary and unacceptable action which took place on Saturday in front of the Chur ice rink against a bus of supporters,” HC Davos communicated on Saturday. Violence and intimidation have no place in sport. We expressly distance ourselves from any aggressive behavior and the people involved. Such actions are in contradiction with the values that the HCD defends.
Sunday morning, it was the turn of HC Chur to take a position, through its president. “This incident has deeply shocked us. It is intolerable and in no way can it be justified that families and children find themselves in such a situation, said Carmine di Nardo. We will commit to ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to hold those responsible to account and to ensure the safety of our fans.”
The Swiss League resident specifies that he is in contact with the authorities and that he fully supports the police investigation.
