Club Brugge won at OHL, and that’s about all we’ll remember about it. Very little action and even Gazelles who can thank Simon Mignolet.
A Saturday evening at Den Dreef: a full stadium, two teams with confidence and therefore, in the end, optimism regarding the show… which was far from being there.
OHL took no risks against Club and often chose to play the ball backwards, to the point of nausea. On the Blauw & Zwart side, they already seemed to have Aston Villa in the lead, because no rhythm was brought either, or at least nothing unpredictable.
No wing changes, no depth and no creative ideas. Even Hans Vanaken was invisible for most of the first 45 minutes.
Only one big opportunity: after OHL lost the ball, Vermant shoots, but the ball reaches Leysen. On the other side, Banzuzi came up against Mignolet once. And that was it…
A lucky goal from Bruges
The second half will be a little better, fortunately. Nicky Hayen had made it clear that more pace was needed in the game and the home side also took more risks.
Still, a goal didn’t seem in the cards until Vanaken switched wings and found Skov Olsen. He shoots, deflected towards Ominami, and Leysen can do nothing. A lucky goal for a mediocre Club Brugge.
After the opening score, the Club – despite three changes – no longer had a say. OHL pushed, but failed in the finish. Mignolet had to put out a feline display to prevent Biron from equalizing. A sensational save, which saved Bruges from a poor performance before hosting Aston Villa…
