RWDM won the summit match against Zulte Waregem last night (2-1). Yannick Ferrera was proud of his men, even if he knows that everything is not perfect.

After a month of October full of posters, among others against the RAAL, Deinze and Westerlo, the RWDM November began with a new shock against Zulte Waregem. A match between candidates for the title since Essevee shared first place with Molenbeekois.

We must now speak in the past since the RWDM started the weekend alone in the lead by winning 2-1, thanks to a goal from Shuto Abe in the last quarter of an hour. “It was a bit like the match against Deinze (against whom RWDM won 3-2 in added time), I am very proud of the physical performance, we finished well, in a very intense way, it proves that the recovery served a purpose” explains Yannick Ferrera.

Leader, but still with room for improvement

Zulte Waregem nevertheless made life difficult for the people of Brussels with some highlights which worried the Stade Machtens: “It’s a great team, they played well, they had their moments too. So far, it’s the team that played the best against us.”

“We start the match strong, which is not often the case, but we quickly get them back up to speed too (with a corner clumsily conceded and defended in a fairly passive manner). We experienced the same thing against Eupenit didn’t cost any points in the end, but we have to learn from these mistakes, even if it’s a young group” continues Ferrera.

The RWDM thus won 7 of its first 10 matches. Enough to sharpen the club’s ambitions? “We’ll talk about it again after 20 matches (laughs). But the beginnings are successful. In terms of accounting, we have 23 points out of 30, which is very good, but we are only a third of the way through the championship. But it can go quickly , there are teams who started very well and didn’t hold on. We have to take advantage now but think about something else on Monday.” Next weekend, Yannick Ferrera and its troops will go to the banks of the Meuse to face RFC Liège.
