A sporting Sunday in Brussels: four races will disrupt traffic

This Sunday, November 3, the Brussels Airport Marathon and three other foot races will cross the capital. Here’s how mobility will be impacted.

This Sunday, November 3, promises to be a sporty one in Brussels. The capital will in fact host four races: two short distances will start between 8:45 a.m. and 9 a.m. on the Place des Palais, followed by the Brussels Half Marathon and the Brussels Marathon, which will start at 9 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. respectively. As indicated by Bruxelles Mobilité, traffic will be strongly impacted. The various routes will be closed gradually from 7 a.m., with a full reopening planned around 3 p.m. From 7 a.m., the A12 motorway towards Brussels will be closed at the intersection with the Ring in Strombeek-Bever.

The complete journey

Brussels Mobility specifies that the runners will start from the north of the Petite Ceinture (R20), cross Ganshoren and Jette, then head towards Parc de Laeken and Heysel. Then, they will follow the canal at Jules de Trooz to reach the North district. After a return and a second passage through Laeken, they will cross the canal again at Van Praet. Runners will continue on the Moyenne Ceinture (R21), crossing Schaerbeek and Woluwe-Saint-Lambert to the Montgomery roundabout. Finally, they will return to the center of Brussels via Avenue de Tervueren, Parc du Cinquantenaire and Rue de la Loi. The race will end with a final straight along the Parc de Bruxelles, with an arrival on the Place des Palais.

The following tunnels will be closed:

  • Le tunnel Reyers-Montgomery direction La Cambre
  • The Botanique and Rogier tunnels towards Basilica
  • The Annie Cordy tunnel in both directions
  • The Reyers-Centre tunnel towards Center
  • The Tervueren, Cinquantenaire and Loi tunnels towards the Centre.

Avoid the area surrounding the route by car and use public transport and other alternatives for your travel to and within Brussels. Participants and supporters can consult mobility advice on the organization’s website. STIB will adapt part of their network.
