Sporting and Jesper Fredberg have parted ways by mutual agreement. The consultant, however, had a name other than Olivier Renard in mind to succeed him.
Jesper Fredberg’s future hung by a thread. When Brian Riemer had to pack his bags, it was surprising that the club did not say goodbye to Fredberg immediately.
Furthermore, the choice of Olivier Renard is somewhat surprising since he left Belgian football five years ago: “Wouter Vandenhaute should have thought twice before appointing Olivier Renard. I am thinking above all of his mark left at Standard, a sensitivity that Wouter didn’t really address,” said Franky Van Der Elst au Het Nieuwsblad.
Vincent Mannaert in Anderlecht?
“The rivalry between Anderlecht and Standard is important. You saw it, the supporters immediately made themselves heard against Tubize, there was already an anti-Renard banner visible and slogans heard in the visitors’ stand”, continues the former captain of the Devils.
The latter admits that he expected another name to succeed Fredberg at Anderlecht: “In a program in which I participated, we had speculated for a while about Vincent Mannaert. Vandenhaute had already tried to appoint general director of the football association We cannot therefore rule it out.”
But it would have been an earthquake as powerful as Olivier Renard’s announcement. The purple fans probably wouldn’t have appreciated seeing him arrive at their club either: “He nevertheless contributed to making Club Brugge the best club in Belgium. Someone with such a track record can surely provide very good services” , punctuates Franky Van Der Elst.
