Oscar Piastri (McLaren) will start in pole position on Saturday (to be followed from 2:55 p.m. on RTS 2) in the sprint race of the Brazilian GP. The Australian won qualifying by 29 thousandths of a second ahead of his British teammate Lando Norris on Friday at the Interlagos circuit.
The second row will be occupied by the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), 3rd at 0”254, and the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull/4th). Leader of the world championship with 47 points ahead of his runner-up Lando Norris before this Brazilian round, Verstappen conceded 320 thousandths to Piastri.
No feat from the Kick-Sauber team drivers. Finnish Valtteri Bottas made it – barely – into Q2, but he set the 15th and worst time there. The Chinese Zhou Guanyou, for his part, missed his job in Q1 and will start at the back of the grid in this sprint.
Bearman replaces Magnussen
Note that Kevin Magnussen will be a spectator of the Brazilian Grand Prix sprint at Interlagos. The Dane, who suffers from nausea, will be replaced at the Haas team by reserve driver Oliver Bearman. The 19-year-old Briton took 10th place in qualifying for the sprint.
Bearman has already been a reserve driver twice this season. At the beginning of March, during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the talented Englishman replaced Carlos Sainz (operated on for appendicitis) at Ferrari and was convincing by finishing 7th. 4 weeks ago he replaced the suspended Magnussen at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at Haas and scored points again, finishing 10th. In 2025, Bearman will be a starter for the American team, while Magnussen did not obtain a new contract.
