Two people were arrested Thursday during a demonstration in opposition to a certain police presence at Concordia University in Montreal, and a security guard was slightly injured.
The demonstration started around 1:45 p.m. Thursday, near the intersection of Sainte-Catherine and Saint-Denis streets, reported spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service (SPVM), Caroline Chèvrefils. .
The demonstrators, who allegedly acted in opposition to a “certain police presence on the University site,” began their march around 2:30 p.m., heading towards the Guy-Concordia metro station.
Around 3 p.m., the protesters reached the University, clashing with security guards.
“While the University security agents were having difficulty containing certain demonstrators, the police intervened to [de les] to assist, [et] one of them [a] was the victim of assault by two demonstrators,” said the spokesperson.
Two protesters, a 21-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, were arrested for assaulting a university security guard.
The latter, a 35-year-old man, suffered minor injuries. The two suspects were released by summons.
