David Hubert will have to make an important decision regarding Leander Dendoncker. If the manager wants to see the player at his best, he could consider repositioning him in midfield, where he seems to bring more to the team.

In the last matches against Beerschot, Ludogorets and Club Brugge, Dendoncker was lined up in defense. However, his performances were not always convincing, particularly during the matches against Beerschot and Club. His effectiveness indeed seems optimal in midfield, as he expressed in an interview for The Last Hour.

Dendoncker at ease in the middle

“Everyone knows I prefer to play in midfield,” Dendoncker said after the defeat at the Jan Breydel Stadium. “The coach needs me in defense, though, and I’m ready to play that role if necessary.” Although Mathias Jorgensen has yet to fully convince in defense, Dendoncker remains essential to Anderlecht’s midfield dynamic.

Better impact in midfield

It therefore seems wise that the former Aston Villa player resumes his place in the midfield for the next matches. In midfield, Dendoncker brings physical intensity, depth, and technical skills that are often lacking. Mats Rits, for his part, could be more effective as a relay midfielder.

A necessary change for the next matches

The return of Dendoncker to the midfield would also allow the other players to perform better. His absence in the middle was particularly noted during the matches against Beerschot, Ludogorets, and Club Brugge. Hubert will therefore have to consider this reorganization for the next meetings. This likely means the return of Mathias Jorgensen in defense, unless the manager plans to experiment with Ludwig Augustinsson as a central defender.
