On June 5, the Pro League and the clubs will vote on the new competition format which will be applied for the coming seasons.

We have once again heard a lot of speculation about the potential new format(s) of the Pro League championship, whether in terms of the number of teams or the Play-offs.

Jan Mosselmans, COO of DAZN Belgium – the broadcaster of the Pro League -, however, does not want to dwell on the subject. “For the rights holder, the fans and all those involved in Belgian football, it is important to have a stable format,” he explained in comments relayed by Belga.

The Pro League towards a new change of format?

“For fans, clubs, sponsors and advertisers, it is particularly difficult in such a context to plan ahead,” he continued, referring to the changes that occurred during the last contract.

“Since we became the rights holder in 2020, there have been format changes in the Jupiler Pro League, Challenger Pro League and Lotto Super League. We hope that clubs will decide in the general interest of professional football Belgian.”

The 2025-2026 season will be the first to which the new rights contract will apply. The chosen format will have a certain influence on the contract.

“It is logical that as the current rights holder we are interested in Belgian football. But we are waiting for the tender and we will then examine the different options,” warned Mosselmans.
