MotoGP riders can draw a line under the Indian Grand Prix in September. In a press release published this Wednesday, May 29, the MotoGP organizers confirmed the cancellation of the race “ for operational reasons » and its postponement to 2025.

Indian GP replaced by Kazakhstan GP in September?

The operational reasons given are linked to the unfavorable weather in September. But according to Motorsport.com , Dorna, holder of the MotoGP rights, had set a deadline for the race promoters so that they respect their financial commitments and catch up on their late payment after the first edition of the Indian GP in 2023. The event contested on the Buddh circuit therefore appeared in the hot seat.

The Indian GP is now postponed to the 2025 season, in March, in order to benefit from more favorable weather. “ The championship will return to the Buddh International Circuit in March 2025, when weather conditions are expected to be optimal for spectators and drivers », Indicates the MotoGP press release.

The cancellation of the Indian GP frees up the weekend of September 20 to 22, 2024. This slot should be taken up by the Kazakhstan GP, ​​initially scheduled for June 14 to 16 but postponed due to heavy flooding which affected the north from the country. The calendar would thus retain its 20 races of the season.
