After the creation of a sculpture in his likeness, a tribute will be paid to the Olympic champion, Jacques Dupont, next Saturday June 22 in Lézat. On the program: exhibition, wreath laying or even sporting events.

The calendar does things well. After three years of work, the blacksmiths, the “Vulcans of the South”, finished making the work dedicated to Jacques Dupont, a cyclist from Lézato who was champion at the London Olympic Games in 1948, in the kilometer event on track and French champion in 1954.

In this Olympic year, we could not have dreamed better than to pay him a fitting tribute.

The “Lézat history and heritage” association which is at the origin of this project, in partnership with the municipality, is organizing a very beautiful tribute on Saturday June 22, with the program from 10 hours : opening of the exhibition on Jacques Dupont’s cycling route on the ground floor at noon, raised from the town hall in the Générations Mouvement room (from 10 a.m. to noon, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. then from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the Sunday May 26 from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. – by appointment for schools), 11 a.m.: laying of a wreath on the grave of Jacques Dupont in the town cemetery.

2:30 p.m. : meeting under a marquee at the Jardin des Bénédictins, on “the values ​​of Olympism” led by Catherine Puget, who had the chance to be a torchbearer of the Olympic flame in Céret (66), in the presence in particular of Frédéric Moncassin, former champion, yellow jersey of the 1996 Tour de France and who also participated in the Olympic Games the same year, and Michel Alcaïne, cyclist, Olympic champion at the Athens Olympics in 2004, where he won the bronze medal in a road race on the road.

3:45 p.m. : departure by bike from these gardens to go to the roundabout at the northern entrance to Lézat, 4 p.m.: inauguration of the stele in homage to Jacques Dupont on the said roundabout, then return to the Jardin des Bénédictins for the speeches.

8:30 p.m. : concert of the Harmonie Batterie Fanfare de Lézat conducted by Audrey Fernet and the Saxofolie ensemble of Portet/Garonne at the bandstand.
