On Friday May 24, Monegasque Charles Leclerc achieved the best time in the second free practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver relegated the Briton Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), who had been the fastest during the first session run earlier in the afternoon, to 188 thousandths. The Spaniard Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) finished 3ealmost half a second from the Monegasque.

The championship leader, the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), only took the fourth best time, ahead of the Briton Lando Norris (McLaren), in great form in recent weeks at the wheel of his car. On the narrow Monegasque track, on which several drivers came close to the barriers placed around the circuit, the second Ferrari, that of the Spaniard Carlos Sainz, finished 6e.

Among the French, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly finished 14th respectively.e and 17e, far from the best. On Saturday, the drivers will take part in a third and final free practice session, scheduled for 12:30 p.m., before competing in qualifying at 4 p.m.
