The Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars kick off the Western Finals Thursday night with Game 1 at the American Airlines Center.

The Albertans defeated the Vancouver Canucks in a seventh and decisive game earlier this week, advancing to the third round for the second time in three years.

For their part, the Stars will want to avoid their fate last spring; they lost in the conference final to the Vegas Golden Knights, eventual Stanley Cup champions.

They put the finishing touches on a triumph at the expense of the Colorado Avalanche with an overtime victory last Friday in the sixth game.

Dallas therefore has the advantage of having accumulated a little rest, although there are advantages and disadvantages to spending almost a week without playing a match.

“I think there are pluses and minuses,” said Oilers captain Connor McDavid. Being away from the action for a week, there can be a little rust setting in. I think that’s what happened to us at the start of our series against Vancouver. »

The Texans have won six of their eight meetings with the Oilers in the playoffs, including five in a row since Todd Marchant made the difference in overtime in Game 7 of a series between the two clubs in the spring of 1997.

In the regular season, the Stars won two of the three meetings with the Oilers. The Alberta victory was obtained on February 17, with a score of 4 to 3 in overtime
