Beaten in the first leg (12-15) by Nantes, Saint-Sulpice and his co-coach Stéphane Doussain set the tone before this perilous trip to Nantes on Saturday for a place in the semi-final.

What was missing in this first leg to win?

He missed a mark in the first half where we were to our advantage, both in terms of possession and territorial domination. The weather was also difficult for both teams, and penalized us against a team that was much more athletic than us.

Regrets ?

It would be a lie to say otherwise. Afterwards, you still have to realize the team you are facing. Nantes is a big budget, a team that trains four times a week, twice as much as us, so yes we have regrets because we could have won this match but we are also proud of our performance and we will do everything do to come back with a ticket for the semi-final in your pocket.

We know, “Saint-Sul” has resources, how are you approaching the second round?

Without betraying much, we know that we could have won the first leg, we know that Nantes at home is very solid but that if there is even a chance to win, we won’t will not be missed. We are only four points away from qualifying, that’s nothing so we’re going to go there with the courage and self-sacrifice that make nothing impossible in Saint-Sulpice.

Are you dreading this long journey?

It’s not the kilometers that scare you, it’s mainly the team facing you (laughs). If we had to cross the Channel we would cross it too but no, we know that we are going to play against a superb team and that if we have to fall, it will be with weapons in hand. Then if they pass we will wish them the best.

A semi-final would also be synonymous with promotion to Nationale 2, do you have it in the back of your mind?

Each day has enough trouble of its ! Either way, we’ll have the whole bus ride to think about it, but each thing in its time. Let’s win and then we’ll see about the rest.

If the season were to end in Nantes, what assessment should we make of this exercise?

I believe that we demonstrated high quality play in the first part of the season which is reflected by the staff in place today, but which is also the fruit of the people who worked upstream. And even if there were more defeats in the second part, we must not lose sight of the fact that we secured this direct qualification without a play-off and I am happy because we are working hand in hand with the Espoirs staff .
