“5G is essential for organizing the World Cup” – Telquel.ma

En response to an oral question on the launch of 5G, presented by the parliamentary group of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) to the House of Representatives, the minister specified that these projects mainly relate to “the processes of reconfiguration of the frequency spectrum and the release of frequency bands likely to be exploited in fifth generation networks in addition to the connection of Base Transceiver Station (BTS) sites with fiber links optical”.

And to add that the national digital development strategy “Morocco digital 2030” includes an aspect linked to 5G, which should be launched, according to Mezzour, “medium term”.

Fifth generation networks have advantages over fourth generation networks, namely transferring a significant amount of data at a faster speed, processing large amounts of data with minimum delay and intensive use of applications in smart homes, buildings, cities and cars, she stressed.

These new uses as well as the investments required by the launch of fifth generation networks require a reconsideration of the economic model to be adopted, which differs from the model of fourth generation services, she observed, noting that the use of 5G coverage requires suitable equipment.

On the other hand, Mezzour indicated that Morocco’s membership in the organization of the 2030 World Cup requires ensuring 5G coverage, particularly in places affected by this global event, such as stadiums, sports venues, training and fanzones.
