Going on the attack on Wednesday, in the 17th stage, Romain Bardet saw his plans thwarted by Tadej Pogacar. Without regrets

A time of difficulty, the day before, during the 16th stage, Romain Bardet had much better legs, Wednesday, between Selva di Val Gardena and Passo Brocon. So much so that the Frenchman went on the attack. A first time at the very start of the stage by joining the breakaway then in a tricky descent, around sixty kilometers from the finish.

But that was without counting on the ogre Pogacar, who obviously did not want to let the native of Brioude leave. Questioned at the finish, Romain Bardet did not hold it against the pink Giro jersey, even understanding his insatiable appetite.

Romain Bardet understands Tadej Pogacar

“We came back from the breakaway but it wasn’t the most favorable moment. It was only a third category pass so we wondered what to do at that point, it wasn’t very clear. I don’t really have any regrets because anyway, when we made our move, I had Pogacar in the wheel. He wasn’t going to let me go, he can’t stop racing.”he confided in comments relayed by Cyclism’-.

Relaunched on the attitude of Tadej Pogacar, determined to leave the other favorites under his control, Romain Bardet finds nothing wrong with his way of doing things. “I don’t think Pogacar is coming for me, he just wants to race. He’s a courier and when he feels there’s excitement and adrenaline, and he feels the guys’ legs hurt, he likes to go, that’s all.”he explained, determined to try his luck again in the coming days: “At the end I still had decent legs so it was a pretty good day. (…) We still have a few mountain stages left to try something.”
