After the noted departure of Florent Ghisolfi to Roma, it is the turn of the director of the training center to leave the club. Le Gym has decided to part ways with Manu Pires. The announcement was made to him by Fabrice Bocquet on Monday. The 53-year-old technician did not expect it. No more than those who worked alongside him with the young people. Pires returned to OGC Nice in 2019, after a long mission from 2007 to 2014 during which he notably won the Gambardella Cup (in 2012) and brought the reserve team up to the CFA, alongside his assistant Jean-Philippe Mattio.

A Sablé-Barraud team?

If the emergence of Mendy or Louchet with the pros was a great satisfaction, the managers felt that the Nice team needed to start again on a new cycle and another dynamic. To succeed him, the name of Yannick Menu, director of the Reims training center, has been circulated but according to our information the Gym should rather opt for an internal solution.

Assistant to Francesco Farioli, Julien Sablé could thus return to the role he had occupied for a few months at Saint-Etienne (in 2017) before temporarily taking over the reins of the first team. The future director of the center will be accompanied in his mission by the experienced Philippe Barraud, stolen from Stade Rennais, who will occupy the role of director of recruitment and performance for the young Aiglons. Strengthening training within a club judged to be lagging behind competitors like Monaco or Rennes, has been established as one of the priority files by the Nice staff, even if in the short term, the first projects mainly concerned the environment of the professional team, then the administrative sector.

The major maneuvers among young people have now begun and they should not spare the coach of the Elite group Didier Digard, whose contract which expires at the end of June should not be renewed. His BEPF, recently validated, should quickly offer him new opportunities on the bench of a first team.

With a new sports director, a new director of the training center and… a new coach, since Francesco Farioli, courted by Ajax Amsterdam, is leaving, it seems that the Nice decision-makers want to start from a blank page . The Genesio-Maurice duo remains their priority, even if they are also working on other avenues, to launch a new cycle which should allow the Gym to perform in the Europa League and finish in the top 6 again next season.

Dante, only a matter of time?

Dante’s extension is on very good track. The two parties, initially opposed on the Brazilian’s future remuneration, have taken a step towards each other and an agreement is now close.
