PSG gives the green light to Achraf Hakimi

Achraf Hakimi should strengthen the national Olympic selection at the Paris-2024 Olympics. Paris Saint Germain would have agreed to leave its right side available to Morocco for the Olympics in order to convince it to extend its adventure in the French capital.

According to the newspaper “L’Équipe”, PSG would have given the green light to the Lion of the Atlas to participate in the Olympic tournament. Achraf Hakimi should therefore strengthen the squad of the Lion Cubs of the Atlas U23 during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“The Parisian club should not oppose the Moroccan’s wish to compete in the Olympic Games. A way, too, of streamlining relations with a player whose future is a short-term issue,” writes the generally well-informed sports media.

According to the same Source, the semi-finalist of the last World Cup would have expressed the wish to participate with Morocco in the Paris Olympics and the technical staff as well as the Parisian management would have accepted the deal.

“Within the capital club, we explain that, for the 25-year-old Moroccan, always keen to represent his country in international competitions (he has already played 2 World Cups and 3 CAN), this tournament is an appointment except that he wants to compete at least once in his career,” we read in the L’Équipe article.

With this gesture towards the Atlas Lion, PSG would like to consolidate its relations with the Moroccan international in anticipation of negotiations to extend his contract which should take place from next season.

“They (PSG leaders, editor’s note) also measure the player’s attachment to his selection. The capital club also knows that authorizing its full-back to participate in the Games would streamline its relations with an element whose short-term future will be an issue. Despite the departure this summer of his friend Kylian Mbappé, Hakimi does not hide his attachment to PSG, with whom he is under contract until 2026,” estimates the French media.

Good news therefore for Tarik Sektioui who will have at his disposal one of the most prominent players in the Lair. The U23 national coach will now have to concentrate on choosing the two other players over the age of 23 capable of strengthening the national Olympic team.
