The eyes of AS Saint-Etienne supporters were riveted last night on the meeting between Rodez and Paris FC counting for the 1st round of the play-offs for accession to the elite of French football. In a match full of twists and turns, it was ultimately the Ruthenois who won and who will challenge the Greens this Friday, May 24. For this meeting, the dynamic will clearly be to Rodez’s advantage.

While Rodez seemed to have done the hardest part to validate his ticket for the second round of the play-offs, the Ruthenois were equalized in the very last moments of the match (90+6′). An equalizer came while the Parisians were playing 10 against 11 for almost the entire second half. Score at the end of added time, 2 to 2. Then followed the famous penalty shootout which, initially, clearly favored the Parisians. The Ruthenois failed in their first three attempts and relied on the sumptuous parades of their goalkeeper, Ewen Jaouen, to gradually catch up with the Parisians. Extended beyond five attempts on each side, the penalty shootout finally turned to the advantage of Rodez (3-2). Rodez will challenge AS Saint-Etienne at Geoffroy-Guichard this Friday to try to compete in the play-offs for accession to Ligue 1 against FC Metz. For the Greens, be careful not to take this Ruthenian formation lightly.

Repeat for Rodez against ASSE?

About ten days ago, Stéphanois and Ruthénois had already faced each other in Forez on the 37th day of Ligue 2. A close encounter which then resulted in a draw between the two teams (1-1). What’s more, earlier in the season, Rodez won at home against AS Saint-Etienne (2-1). Even more worrying, the Stéphanois have never beaten the Ruthénois in their history in five confrontations. In full doubt after a series of three unconvincing matches, ASSE, not spared from injuries, will challenge a liberated and transcended Ruthenian team. After an already successful season, Rodez will have nothing to lose against the Greens who have immense expectations for this post-season. Last night, Rodez particularly dominated the debates against Paris FC. 22 shots for 11 on target were to be deplored on the Parisian cage. A formidable thirst for victory which, without a doubt, will remain intact against AS Saint-Etienne.

Warned, the Greens will have to be sharp from the first minutes against Rodez this Friday. One thing is certain, ASSE will be able to count on the unfailing support of its public to try to defeat the Ruthenian team. The atmosphere promises to be electric for what promises to be the match of the season at Geoffroy-Guichard.
