Ritchie De Laet will leave Antwerp at the end of the current season, but could well be deprived of a “real” farewell on Saturday at Bosuil. The defender was indeed injured this Monday.

Ritchie DeLaet (35 years old) announced that he would leave Antwerp at the end of the 2023-2024 season. It is not yet known whether he will continue his career thereafter, but the central defender said he was open to a new challenge. In any case, he will not extend his lease at Bosuil.

These Playoffs are therefore the former Manchester United’s last matches for Antwerp, and a nice tribute will be paid to him on Saturday against RSC Anderlecht. But it is possible that De Laet… is not on the field.

Indeed, Ritchie De Laet came out injured this Monday after falling badly following a header, around the 70th minute of play. The veteran was in tears, aware that he had perhaps played his last minutes in the colors of the ‘Antwerp.

Surrounded by his teammates and acclaimed by his audience in Genk, De Laet was replaced by Eliot Matazo. The severity of his injury is unknown, but he appears to have injured his knee, which is never a good sign.

Ritchie De Laet has played 33 matches in all competitions this season, and 213 in total for Antwerp where he trained and began his professional career in 2006.
