Club Brugge only needs one point against Cercle on the final day to crown themselves national champions. A draw in the Bruges derby could also be enough for Cercle to end the season in style.

Indeed, Cercle remains in the race for fourth place, which would entitle it to a ticket for the second preliminary round of the Europa League. For the moment, they are two points ahead of KRC Genk, currently opposed to Antwerp.

Le Cercle against Genk

If the Limburgers win, they will push Cercle to fifth place, which will have something to play for on Sunday anyway. The number five in the final ranking will play the play-offs against Ghent for a place in the second preliminary round of the Conference League.

To keep their destiny in hand, Miron Muslic’s troops are crossing their fingers that Genk does not take points against Antwerp. Especially since in the event of victory for number 1, a draw would be enough to ensure fourth place.

Pact between the people of Bruges?

In this case, Genk will at most be able to finish tied with Cercle, who will then have the advantage thanks to their better ranking in the regular league. The scenario of a draw caused at Jan Breydel is therefore already advanced.

For Genk, who managed to climb into the top six at the last moment during the controversial match against Westerlo, it would be an ironic ending. However, there is little chance that the Bruges rivals will embark on such an adventure if they have the opportunity.
