Cameroon: towards a big snub for Eto’o with the staff?

The Cameroonian Ministry of Sports has denied the information according to which the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, has decided to maintain the new staff of the Indomitable Lions appointed by Samuel Eto’o.

The Ministry of Sports is not about to give up. Although the very serious magazine Young Africa announced that Paul Biya ruled in favor of Eto’o’s staff at the expense of that of the ministry, which however imposed the coach Marc Brys, the entourage of Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi continues to deny.

“The head of state did not give any directives to the minister [des Sports] aimed at accepting a possible modification of the composition of the technical staff of the national selection, appointed on April 2 with his full agreement”would have declared a ministry executive in comments relayed by our colleagues from Sport News Africa.

“There is only one staff”, the ministry persists and signs

“This redevelopment will never be taken into account by the governmentadded a close friend of the minister who requested anonymity. There is only one staff, it is the one appointed by the Presidency of the Republic. The State has not taken its foot off the gas in the face of Samuel Eto’o. It is the State which employs the technical supervision of the Indomitable Lions. The State cannot pay coaches it has not recruited.”

Statements which echo those of the secretary general of the ministry, Cyrille Tollo, having previously warned that“there is only one technical framework at the head of the Indomitable Lions, it is that resulting from the very high directives of the Presidency of the Republic”.

Still according to SNA, the president of the Federation (Fécafoot), Samuel Eto’o, was reframed on April 30 during a meeting at the prime minister’s office by the general secretary Séraphin Magloire Fouda. The latter had notably expressed his dissatisfaction. But the former scorer remained straight in his boots, thus defying the SG of the presidency, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh. The same one who had formalized via letter to the ministry the appointment of the staff composed of François Omam Biyik, Ashu Besong, Benjamin Banlock and company with the “high tuning” of the head of state.

One thing is certain, the imbroglio surrounding the management of the Lions is far from being resolved, while the resumption of the World Cup qualifiers in June looms.
