Bayer Leverkusen are gearing up for an exciting season after winning the Bundesliga and securing their place in next season’s Champions League. However, the Xabi Alonso-led team could lose several of their star players this summer, hence the need to bring in new talent to stay competitive.

In this context, Alonso has identified three key players who he considers essential to strengthen his team: Nacho, Aleix Garcia and Riccardo Calafiori.

  • Nacho: Real Madrid’s experienced defender. With his versatility in defense and his extensive experience in European competitions, Nacho would be a valuable asset for Leverkusen. His ability to lead from the back and his tactical knowledge would bring solidity and security to the German team. However, it appears the Spaniard’s future lies in MLS.
  • Aleix Garcia: The Girona midfielder is another priority target for Alonso. Thanks to his vision of the game and his ability to control the tempo of the game, Garcia could become the driving force of the German team.
  • Riccardo Calafiori: the young left back from Bologna is the third recruit desired by Alonso. At just 21 years old (he turns 22 tomorrow), Calafiori has shown tremendous potential and a promising future. His speed and attacking abilities as a full-back would bring a new dimension to Leverkusen’s play, complementing the defensive solidity with dangerous runs down the flanks.
