Gobert fined again for “inappropriate gesture” towards a referee during Minnesota-Denver

The NBA imposed a large fine on Rudy Gobert for his behavior during Minnesota’s loss to Denver on Sunday in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals. Already sanctioned for the same reason in March, the French pivot insinuated that the referee was corrupt by miming a gesture with his fingers.

A new sanction for Rudy Gobert. The NBA imposed a large fine on the Minnesota pivot for his behavior during his team’s home defeat against Denver on Sunday in Game 4 of the Western Conference semi-final (107-115). After a foul was called against him for contact with Jamel Murray on the rebound, the French colossus expressed his dissatisfaction by mimicking the “money gesture” with his fingers. A gesture implying that the referee would be corrupt.

The NBA decided to fine him $75,000 (around 69,000 euros), denouncing in a press release an “inappropriate and unprofessional gesture which calls into question the integrity of the league and its referees”.

Wolves overthrown by Nuggets

Two months ago, Rudy Gobert had already been sanctioned for a similar gesture towards the same referee, Scott Foster. The captain of the French team was then fined 100,000 dollars (around 92,000 euros). He justified his action by mentioning the influence of sports betting in refereeing decisions in the NBA.

Voted best defender in the league for the fourth time in his career, the 31-year-old pivot has just celebrated the birth of his first child, a little boy named Romeo. After winning the first two games of the series, the Wolves have made three defeats in a row against the Nuggets of MVP Nikola Jokic (reigning champions), who lead 3-2 and are only one victory away from the final of the Western Conference.
