Olympic Games 2024: despite millions of euros invested in sports structures, Wallonia and Brussels will not welcome any foreign delegation

Except that, after investing 32 million euros over two years and retaining 28 sports sites, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation finds itself today without any requests from foreign delegations. The reason: the calls for applications were sent… too late. The international delegations, having to prepare as quickly as possible, favored infrastructures which were already presented to them in France.

Belgium will send soldiers to strengthen the security of the Olympic Games: “It is recognized that the Belgian Defense has expertise in this area”

The municipality of Nivelles, interviewed by our colleagues from RTL, explains that it had the ambition of becoming an “Olympic city” for several years and had invested in the renovation of its athletics track. Two foreign delegations, one Ukrainian and one Senegalese, had also been attracted to the Walloon city. However, their enthusiasm waned when they learned that the infrastructure had to be paid for.

Contacted by La Libre to react to this file, the spokesperson for Pierre-Yves Jeholet preferred to refer us to Adeps.

Questioned by RTL, Cédrik Colinet, attached to the high-level sports unit of Adeps, for his part put the situation into perspective: “It will be especially useful to our Belgian athletes who needed quality infrastructure to be able to perform internationally. It’s not really a flop”.
