The tennis club’s open tournament was a great success, despite the rain which fell on the courts for 3 weeks.

The Verfeil Tennis Club (TCV) has just broken a record, and not the least. Indeed, under the control of referee Philippe Remy, its spring open tournament welcomed 206 participants between Friday April 19 and Thursday May 9, compared to around sixty usually. This is clearly a sign of good health for the club chaired by Florent Viogne, which to date has more than a hundred members. The competition included 3 categories: women’s singles, men’s singles and men’s singles over 35 years old.

“Only the weather

disturbed us”

“The tournament went well. The timing was good, because we organized it during a period during which there were no other simultaneous tournaments,” underlines Guillaume Ham, competition manager at TCV. He continues: “Only the weather disrupted us and the tournament suffered from the rain. This is why we thank the tennis clubs of Lavaur and Bessières, where we were able to play on indoor courts. We also had access to the courts of the Tennis League in Balma”. Even if the club can occasionally benefit from convertible land on the adjacent facilities of the Fernand-Daydé and Jean-Louis Lahore gymnasiums, its two outdoor courts were difficult to play on several occasions in the downpours.

The club was founded at the end of the 1970s within the Verfeilloise Sports Union (USV), at a time when the town had 1,300 inhabitants, compared to more than 3,800 to date.

After the dissolution of the USV in 1996, the TCV was officially created on November 13 of the same year. Its tennis school today welcomes children from 3 years old, but also adults for leisure or competition.

Results of the TCV open tournament:

Senior ladies’ singles: victory for L. Vieu (Balma) against C. Bertrand-Pylebrun (Saint-Orens). Senior men’s singles: victory for J. Marsat (Plaisance) against P. Verdier (Montastruc). Men’s singles (+ 35 years): victory for J. Seghier (Labastide-St-Sernin) against S. Gauthier (Balma).
