On May 12, Italy celebrates Mother’s Day. For the occasion, several Serie A clubs decided to mark the occasion by displaying a special flocking on the 36th day.

Little novelty on certain jerseys of several Serie A teams. While Italy celebrates Mother’s Day on May 12, the players of Cagliari, Genoa, Hellas Verona, Lecce, AC Milan, Torino and Udinese wore – or will wear – a jersey with their mother’s first or last name during the 36th day, played this weekend. For the first time, the initiative is shared by the Italian Football League “in response to requests from certain clubs to celebrate International Mother’s Day”.

Saturday evening during the victory against Cagliari (5-1), the Milanese paid tribute to their mother. This is how Olivier Giroud wore a flocked “Viviane” jersey and Theo Hernandez “Florence”. “Since 2022 in Italy, mothers have the right to keep their last name. For Mother’s Day, we want to offer a gift to the mothers of our players. Today like every day, AC Milan is on the ground for equality”, indicates the Rossonero club on social networks.

Opponent of the Milanese, the group of Cagliari players was announced with paternal and maternal surnames. A similar initiative was put in place by the Spanish club Getafe, which let the players’ mothers enter the field alongside their sons on May 3.
