Eric Gerets is a legend among legends at Standard. He finds it hard to believe the situation the club finds itself in.

When did things go wrong? Standard ? Everyone has their opinion on the matter among the supporters. What is certain is that the current situation is no longer tenable.

“At some point, it’s too much for the supporters, eh. For them, it’s a terrible moment in the history of the club,” explains Eric Gerets at the Nieuwsblad.

777 Partners still takes its place

“Who would have thought that at 777 Partners, would there be such cowboys in power? Without any commercial vision? I think no one would have dared to predict that,” recalls Gerets, who remembers this summer of 2022 when the arrival of the American investment fund was celebrated with great fanfare to draw a line under the Venanzi era.

Eric Gerets also feels cheated: “They are sending a big and beautiful club like Standard into the wall. My heart is bleeding” he concludes.

Now is the time to look for a buyer. The possibilities of seeing Bruno Venanzi or Lucien D’Onofrio return to the helm have been mentioned, but the saga is clearly only in its early stages.
