Premier League: Hearing against Manchester City, accused of 115 offences, to begin on Monday

The Skyblues will (finally) have to explain themselves. Accused of 115 breaches of the financial regulations of the Premier League but also of UEFA, Manchester City is summoned before an independent commission from this Monday, September 16. The hearing should last at least two months. And given the scale of the case, no decision could be made before spring 2025, as reported this Thursday by the English press including the Daily Mail.

Manchester City risking a lot

The English champions are the target of an investigation launched in 2018, which lasted five years, and which therefore revealed no less than a hundred breaches of the regulations of the Premier League and UEFA. These charges span a period from 2009 to 2018, that is to say during the first nine seasons following the purchase of 80% of the club by Abu Dhabi. During this sequence, the Mancunian team won three English championship titles (2012, 2014, 2018).

Faced with these allegations, Manchester City immediately said they were “surprised” and ready to defend themselves. While they are also accused of not having fully cooperated with the investigation led by the Premier League, the Mancunian leaders affirmed having provided “a large quantity of detailed documents” and specified that they welcomed “the examination of this case by an independent commission in order to impartially consider all the irrefutable evidence that exists”.

Under Premier League rules, any sanction handed down at the end of the hearing could include a points deduction or even the threat of expulsion from the league.
