Pro D2 – Béziers overthrows Nevers after the siren and qualifies for the final phase

At the opening of the 29th day, in a Raoul-Barrière stadium filled with more than 12,000 spectators, Béziers avoided the trap set by Nevers thanks to a try at the end of the game from Tchelidze (20-16). ASBH is qualified for the final phase, and almost eliminates USON’s chances.

The sun and the people in the stands gave the air of the final phase. And that’s good, Béziers, absent from the start of summer since 2018, will taste this intoxication again. Opposed to Nevers, Pierre Caillet’s band trembled in front of their audience before Tchelidze’s liberating try, five minutes after the siren (20-16). A snatched success, which is worth gold, even if ASBH lost Costa Storti and Koen to injury.

With this success, Béziers consolidated its place on the podium (3rd, 80 points). Nevers (70 points) is now dependent on other results, but should not participate in the final phase.

Tchelidze, unexpected hero

Back to back at the break (13-13), Béziers and Nevers delivered a real final phase match. Logically, the leaders were called to the rescue in each team. Author of a remarkable performance, Lorre slammed a drop from 45 meters on an in-goal return (13-10, 48th).

Not on their plate in recent weeks, USON believed, however, to have done the most thanks to Reynolds (13-13, 52nd) and Le Bourhis (13-16, 73rd). It was before a cruel end. Despite having possession with one minute to go, the visitors lost the ammunition on a good scratch from Ancely. Béziers did not need to be asked to conclude the match point, thanks to a beautiful number from the Lorre – Espeut duo on the wing. In force, Tchelidze, who entered at the end of the game, delivered his team (20-16, 80th+6).

Pauta woke up his people

In the first period, USON had already faltered at the siren after a sin of gluttony and a ball played while it had the advantage in the score (3-10). After recovering yet another ball in touch on a throw from Gonzalez, Plataret’s partners wanted to widen the gap. Pauta did not share this opinion. The third helmeted line was used in a ruck at the median. Coming into play in place of Costa Storti, Nanai Williams showed his class by making a magnificent arm pass for Nkinsi. The second row, full of rage, brought his team within 22 meters. On the overthrow, well offset by Lorre, Pauta dove in the corner to validate a 50-meter try. Marques was responsible for putting everyone back on level terms (10-10, 40th).

And yet, Béziers has long been mistreated and clumsy in the face of cold opposing realism. At the start of the game, Péméja’s men had calmed the Béziers cauldron. On a five-yard throw, Jaiani caught the ball. Kazubek pretended to form a maul before passing the ball to Bouyssou. Coming to offer himself inside his scrum half, Elia Elia deceived the opposing vigilance at the end of this beautiful combination (0-7, 7th). Insufficient. The ASBH, despite the combined injuries of Costa Storti (ankle) and Koen (malleolus), returned from hell to stamp a ticket to paradise. Next week, for the last day of the regular phase, Béziers will travel to Soyaux-Angoulême to validate a play-off at home. Nevers will receive Dax.
