The Swiss shone at the Diamond League meeting in Doha. Ditaji Kambundji won the 100m hurdles. Earlier in the day, Simon Ehammer took third place at length.

After two encouraging outings in China, Ditaji Kambundji raised the bar in Qatar. The Bernese woman won in 12”49, just 2 hundredths off her Swiss record. She focused her effort at the end of the race to beat the American Tonea Marshall and the Polish Pia Skrzyszowska, the reigning European Champion, by 2 and 4 hundredths.

With this victory, Ditaji Kambundji became the sixth Swiss athlete to win in the Diamond League after Nicole Büchler, Lea Sprunger, Ajla Del Ponte, her older sister Mujinga and Simon Ehammer.

A sixth podium in the Diamond League for Ehammer

Simon Ehammer, in fact, who achieved his first of the year in the Diamond League. Simon Ehammer was credited with a jump of 8.30m. Only the Jamaican Carey McLeod (8.52m) and the Greek Miltiadis Tentoglou (8.36m) jumped further than the Appenzellois, last year’s winner of the discipline rankings. His podium in Doha is the sixth of his career in the Diamond League.

He crossed the 8m line for the third time this year. In Qatar, however, he remained 15cm away from his best jump in 2024.
