Martin Lemay suspended indefinitely

Breaking news: BPM Sports has made the decision to suspend (indefinitely, I am told) Martin Lemay. It was Alexandre Panneton, CEO of the station, who just announced the thing on the air, at the start of the show The Return of the Athletes.

Martin Lemay was not at the helm of the return show today and Alexandre Panneton therefore confirmed, without saying it, that Martin Lemay was at least suspended indefinitely. Please note that we do not yet know whether this suspension will result in dismissal or not. We’ll see.

In the meantime, it is Greg Lanctot who has the mandate to host the show of the return, he who was already supposed to go on the air in this time slot in mid-June for the summer programming.

Why was Martin Lemay suspended? Because he made unacceptable comments on the air yesterday, when it was about CF Montreal. What were these words? Martin refused to blame Joey Saputo for the current difficulties at CF Montreal (Mathieu Choinière, Olivier Renard, etc.), mentioning that he did not want to see his tank explode. People saw it as nothing less than a racist comment.

We can hear Martin Lemay’s words at the very beginning of the full version of yesterday’s show HERE.

Alexandre Panneton therefore sincerely apologized to the listeners, but also to CF Montreal directly. Martin Lemay is therefore the subject of internal measures. According to the station’s CEO, there was no external interference during the Martin Lemay suspension process.

It will be interesting to see what RDS decides to do with the host of the podcast We talk.

Note that since the start of the radio season, BPM Sports has changed its morning show (departure of Paul Houde), its mid-morning (displacement of Max Lalonde and return of Max Van Houtte) and now his show return. There is only the south box which does not have moved.
