Lhe MX2 world vice-champion, Lucas Coenen, really wanted to show off during the 77th Motocross of Nations. Young rider Nestaan Husqvarna was hoping to make his 450cc debut there but a last-minute reshuffle in the Belgian team forced him to take his brother Sacha’s place in MX2. Nevertheless, the 17-year-old Belgian left his business card at Matterley Basin. It’s a shame that his weekend ended prematurely following a heavy fall in the first round.

The very ambitious rider from Brussels has been training on the Husqvarna FC 450 for some time now. Next year, Coenen will indeed ride in MXGP for the Red Bull KTM team led by Davide De Carli. Lucas showed the grit and offensive spirit that made him the most high-profile rider at this year’s World Motocross Championship. Without ever trembling, Coenen took on world-class riders such as Ken Roczen and Jeremy Seewer aboard his little 250F. While he seemed to be closing in on MXGP world champion Jorge Prado, who was in 4th place, things unfortunately took a turn for the worse.

Lucas fell hard and immediately grabbed his left shoulder. After this fall, Coenen left the race. He also did not start the second race (MX2 + Open) later in the afternoon. In his “11 magic tricks” before this mistake at Matterley, our compatriot approached the times of Jorge Prado and Romain Febvre, among others. With his 2:02.882, he was even 8 tenths faster than Jeffrey Herlings…
