The former glory of the Stade de Reims has the right to his statue on the square in front of the Auguste Delaune stadium where the Rémois play. It was inaugurated this Sunday on the sidelines of the match on the 7th day of Ligue 1 between Stade de Reims and Montepllier.
The one who was nicknamed “Justo” died on March 1, 2023 at the age of 89. Since then, he has received several tributes, including moments of contemplation on French lawns a few days after his death.
The family associated with creation
Behind this statue representing Just Fontaine, smiling, kicking a gold ball, Juan-Carlos Carillo. The sculptor of Peruvian origin began his work at the beginning of April 2024 and was helped by the family of the former French football glory.
The statue of Just Fontaine joined that of another legend. Indeed, the statue of Raymond Koppa is also present on the square in front of the Reims stadium and was erected at the end of 2018. “Justo” had spent six years with Reims between 1956 and 1962 and had scored 145 goals in 152 matches in all competitions. With Reims, Just Fontaine won three French championship titles and a Coupe de France.
