PSG remained silent until the end and will not go to Wembley. As in the first leg, the Parisians lost to Borussia Dortmund in the semi-final second leg of the Champions League on Tuesday and were eliminated at the foot of the bottom step (0-1). Not incisive enough, they conceded a goal from Mats Hummels from a corner (50th) and failed to respond despite finding four goals. Kylian Mbappé and his family will only be able to bite their fingers.

In the middle of a boiling Parc des Princes well before kick-off, PSG knew their mission to turn the situation around after their narrow defeat in the first round (1-0). It was necessary to score at least twice, which is why Luis Enrique decided to start Gonçalo Ramos up front and shift Mbappé to the left. The Portuguese and his partners wanted to push from the start and put pressure on the Borussen but they resisted perfectly.

Paris still too soft

Well in place tactically and solid as in the first leg, the German visitors calmly contained the French champions lacking ideas, liaison and offensive percussion. Simply crazy. Ousmane Dembélé was messy in the first period while Mbappé appeared to be borrowed and Paris was not dangerous despite 60% possession and 8 shots for 3 on target.

Threatening thanks to Jadon Sancho, Borussia also got the biggest opportunity on the counter-attack with their other winger Karim Adeyemi whose shot Gianluigi superbly repelled with a firm left hand (36th).

Paris, Year I or a season for nothing?

Dortmund knew how to hurt

The Parisians still finally shook themselves up after the restart but Warren Zaire-Emery shot the post from a tight angle (48th). A few moments later, Hummels did not miss his chance to open the scoring from a corner after getting rid of Lucas Beraldo’s marking while Donnarumma remained in front of his line (0-1, 50th). The German central defender scored his first goal of the season in C1. He was also absolutely imperial in defense.

Because Paris ended up really pushing. Nuno Mendes, however, found the post in his turn with his axial shot from 20 meters (61st). Launched in place of Ramos (63rd), Bradley Barcola also brought dynamism to the left. Clearly insufficient, however, to definitively set fire to the opposing area. We had to wait until the last 5 minutes to see PSG lay siege to the German wall.

When his rearguard folded, Gregor Kobel played his role as the final rampart and diverted a recovery from Mbappé onto his crossbar (86th). Vitinha’s strike suffered the same fate (88th). Far too imprecise with a total of 31 shots for only 5 on target, PSG saw their big dream disappear. Edin Terzic’s BvB will face rival Bayern or Real Madrid on June 1 in the legendary London venue.
