Twelve years have passed since Senegalese football lost one of its most emblematic figures, Jules François Bocandé, who suffered a surgical operation intended to alleviate the after-effects of a stroke.

On May 7, 2012, at the age of 53, Jules François Bocandé left us in Metz, victim of complications that arose during a surgical procedure. The former Senegalese international, with 73 caps and 20 goals between 1979 and 1993, was much more than a football player. He was a symbol, an icon of Senegalese sport, a model of dedication, patriotism and passion.

He had proudly worn the colors of his country during three African Cups of Nations as a player (1986, 1990 and 1992) and one as a coach in 1994. Alongside his young brothers and nephews, he cultivated a patriotic fiber, transmitting its values ​​with passion. His attachment to the 2002 Generation was beyond doubt. He was alongside Bruno Metsu, sharing his experience and know-how to guide the Lions to the African Cup in Mali and the World Cup in South Korea and Japan.
