After their career on the ice, some NHL players find a job behind a bench or in team management. That could one day be the case for Nick Suzuki.

The captain of the Canadiens is already fulfilling his role wonderfully and some see him as a future general manager.

Matt Larkin they Daily Faceoff explained in a recent text that this is what he sees in the future for the young Habs player.

Larkin had the opportunity to speak with Suzuki during the NHL Players’ Media Tour and realized the captain does a lot of “recruiting” work with members of his organization.

During the draft, Suzuki was quick to call Ivan Demidov and Michael Hage and confirmed that he feels it is his responsibility to monitor their development.

In fact, he not only tracks the development of first-round picks, but also the organization’s multiple prospects.

In a way, Suzuki is already a leader of the Canadiens. As captain, he makes sure to follow his teammates well by giving them advice on and off the ice.

He explained that he was closely following Juraj Slafkovsky’s development and noticed the exact moment when everything started to click for the former first overall pick. This is when Slafkovsky discovered how to play physical hockey and how to use his body to gain an advantage.

Suzuki understands that the team is rebuilding and it’s time for trial and error, but he sees the light at the end of the tunnel and soon wants the team to take the small wheels off his bike.

The captain admires the work of Kent Hughes, but he feels that now is not the time to fill the bank with hopes. According to him, it’s time to focus on those who are already there to ensure that they succeed in carving out a place in the team.

Suzuki does all this to return to the playoffs. He made the playoffs in his first two NHL seasons, but he wants the real experience. Both of his participations were tarnished by COVID-19.

He therefore feels that his work of “pre-management» is useful to the team to ensure that the Canadians become competitive again as quickly as possible.
