Lille won a prestigious victory against Real Madrid (1-0) on Wednesday during the second day of the Champions League. If Jonathan David scored the winning goal, Bruno Genesio was particularly complimentary towards Ayyoub Bouaddi. Starting for his birthday, the 17-year-old midfielder is already delighting his coach.
Failing to see Kylian Mbappé start the match on the Merengue side, the public at Stade Pierre-Mauroy was able to see the emergence of a new talent this Wednesday during the duel won by Lille against Real Madrid (1-0) in the Ligue des champions. Lined up from the start by Bruno Genesio on his 17th birthday, Ayyoub Bouaddi did well against Valverde, Camavinga and other Tchouaméni. Without too much surprise after his team’s success, the Losc coach praised the merits of his young protégé.
“You saw him like me. He is 17 years old today. What could be better for him than to celebrate his 17th birthday with a start, a victory and a big match”, rejoiced Bruno Genesio to the press .

“He demonstrated all the potential and talent he has”
For his first start in the Champions League, Ayyoub Bouaddi made an impression within the Dogues squad. If he had already participated in five of his team’s six matches in Ligue 1 this season and in the inaugural defeat in C1 in Lisbon (2-0), he would have had to wait a little before being entitled to a real chance on the European scene. The fault, in part, is a small injury which postponed the deadline.
“He has demonstrated all the potential and all the talent he has. We know what he is capable of,” added Bruno Genesio against him in the wake of the convincing northern success. “He was slowed down a little by an injury at the start of the season and that slowed down his progress a little bit. But as he is a boy who has a very well-shaped head, he came back gradually.”
Genesio promises him a bright future
On his legs and very visible against one of the best trios in the Champions League, Ayyoub Bouaddi will now have to continue. After showing himself, the U18 international tricolor will have to confirm and repeat such a performance. But according to his coach, this should not pose too much of a problem for the 17-year-old.
“It’s a great reward for him, because he deserves it and because he has the talent to play at this level. But then you know, football is the story of an evening,” said finally slipped Bruno Genesio.
Before warning: “You have to know how to confirm, but I don’t think there’s too much to worry about in that regard with him.” Ayyoub Bouaddi is warned, he must not relax. But Europe is also aware, Lille has great emerging talent in its squad this season. A great first start which will only need to be confirmed in C1, on October 23 on the Atletico pitch or on November 5 against Juventus.
