the essential
End of series and great operation with a view to qualifying for the European Cup. After three matches without a victory, Toulouse won 34-31 this Friday evening in Chartres, at the end of a match with two very distinct, if not opposing, periods. It was the twenty-seventh day of Starligue.
In the first half, Fenix imposed its rhythm, despite the absence of goalkeeper Lettens and Ilic. More collective and more precise, the Toulouse people were able to press where it hurts for an opponent in full doubt after six losses in a row, including two already in their new room at the Coliseum.
Three goals ahead at the break
Danijel Andjelkovic’s formation relied on its offensive weapons, fast play and numerous shifts on the wing. While Fenix punished Chartres on commitment, the right-handed Jarry (6/6) and the left-handed Kempf (4/6) enjoyed themselves. Toulouse thus reached the break with a three-goal lead despite waste for Feuchtmann and Abdi (16-19).

But Andjelkovic’s players, solid, never let Chartres get ahead and did not suffer in the money-time. Jarry (9/10) first allowed Fenix to resist the pressure, then Abdi, discreet until now, came out of his box to ruin Chartres’ last hopes (31-34). The spiral broken, Toulouse will have to follow up on May 17 with a new trip, to Aix-en-Provence. Europe deserves…
“We will regain confidence” rejoices the Toulouse coach
Danijel Andjekovic: “Honestly, it feels good, because we had a difficult week. The victory here in Chartres against a great team which is not rewarded with results, will allow us to regain confidence. The match was very intense and was tight until the end, but we didn’t panic. I’m proud of the players tonight.”
