The drama of the disappearance at sea of Medhi Narjissi, young player of the French under-18 team, is transformed into a legal standoff. Implicated by an internal investigation by the French Rugby Federation, Stéphane Cambos, the team manager, filed a complaint for slanderous denunciation against the FFR.

On August 7, during an international tournament in South Africa, Medhi Narjissi was swept away by the waves on a dangerous beach near the Cape of Good Hope. That day, the team was supposed to participate in a recovery session organized by their management.

In mid-September, the FFR submitted a report pointing the finger at the technical advisors present during this session. In response, Cambos decided to act, believing that the federation was trying to make him take responsibility for the tragedy. In an interview given to the daily South WestMe Arnaud Dupin, Cambos’ lawyer, declared that the FFR had “totally hidden” his client’s statements denouncing an “execution”.

He specified that the swim should have taken place after the excursion to the hotel and that Stéphane Cambos was only informed when the swim had already started. His intervention put an end to the bathing, thus proving his disagreement with this activity.

The lawyer also raised administrative shortcomings, such as the absence of a signed mission letter and the lack of hierarchical link between his client and the physical trainer.

At the same time, two investigations are underway. An administrative investigation is being carried out by the General Inspectorate of Education, Sport and Research, the results of which are expected by the end of November.

Furthermore, the public prosecutor’s office opened a judicial investigation into a “disturbing disappearance” at the request of the player’s family.

Following the preliminary conclusions of the FFR report, several sports technical advisors were suspended as a precautionary measure by the Ministry of Sports.
