INDIANAPOLIS – Led by inspired performances from their supporting players, the Indiana Pacers defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 120-98 to eliminate them in six games.

Obi Toppin and TJ McConnell led the charge with performances of 21 and 20 points against the Bucks. McConnell added nine assists, four steals and two rebounds.

Deprived of Giannis Antetokounmpo for this entire series, the Bucks will almost never have been in the game in this meeting without a future for Doc Rivers’ troop.

Absent during Game 5, Damian Lillard was back in action for the Bucks. He led his team with 28 points.

The Pacers won a very first series since 2014. They then lost in the association final against the Miami Heat of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle wins his first series since the 2011 final against the Heat. At the helm of the Dallas Mavericks, Carlisle had lost his last six series in the first round.

Tyrese Haliburton scored a double of 17 points and 10 assists, his third against the Bucks. The playmaker, however, had a tough game from the line three times, making just two of his 10 attempts.

Pascal Siakam led the Pacers starters with 19 points. Aaron Nesmith added 15 and Canadian Andrew Nembhard scored 14.

Without their two big stars, the Bucks managed to avoid elimination with a decisive 115-92 victory in Game 5 on Tuesday. Lillard’s return, however, was not enough to force a final match.

The Pacers’ supporting players amassed 50 of the team’s 120 points in this meeting. Without Giannis, the Bucks’ depth has struggled a lot. Four of the five starters had at least 14 points, but the rest of the Bucks players combined to score a meager 16 points.

The Knicks blow a 22-point lead, but return to the 2nd round

In the second round, the Pacers will face the New York Knicks, who defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 118-115 to win their series in six games.

The 76ers erased a 22-point deficit in the first half, but the Knicks were able to have the last word to advance to the second round for a second straight season, notably thanks to a crucial three-point basket from Josh Hart with 24 seconds left.

Jalen Brunson once again carried the New Yorkers with a fourth consecutive performance of 39 points or more. After collecting 39, 47 and 40 points in games 3, 4 and 5, this time he amassed 41 points and 12 assists.

Joel Embiid responded with 39 points and 13 rebounds for the 76ers, who failed to reach the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

The Knicks built a 33-11 lead early in the game, but the 76ers rallied to go into the locker room with a 54-51 lead at halftime.

The rest of the match was very hotly contested. The Knicks took a 109-101 lead with less than three minutes left, but the Sixers came back to within one point of New York with seven straight points.

Tyrese Maxey then tied the game 111-111 with a basket followed by a successful free throw and Hart put the Knicks back in control for good with a three-pointer off a nice pass from Brunson. Embiid then cut the lead to one point, but then had to commit his sixth foul of the game to stop the clock with 11 seconds left.

The game then turned into a free throw contest until the 76ers’ last possession. Buddy Hield then missed a contested three-pointer with two seconds left to end the game.

As he did in Game 5 of the series, Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau overtaxed his starters by using only seven players. So, Brunson, Hart, OG Anunoby, and Donte DiVincenzo all played more than 40 minutes.

DiVincenzo had 23 points and seven assists, making five three-pointers. Anunoby added 19 points and nine rebounds, Hart had 16 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists and Isaiah Hartenstein provided 14 points and nine rebounds.

Besides Embiid, Hield led the 76ers in scoring with 20 points coming off the bench.

Author of 46 points in Game 5, Maxey was limited to 17 points with only six baskets on 18 shots.
