Despite the defeat, it was a nice moment at the Toulouse Stadium. If the TFC could not get rid of Lyon (1-2), we will especially remember the excellent atmosphere created by the supporters between fans, smoke bombs, songs and tributes.

Football-wise, the first two goals are from Toulouse. First by Yann Gboho on a superb left strike and then by Rasmus Nicolaisen on an unfortunate own-goal and against the flow of play. At the end of the match, and while Toulouse was pushing to snatch victory, achieved the perfect heist thanks to a goal of Malick Fofana on the wire (and between the legs of Guillaumes Restes). Detailed match summary.

A match for missing supporters

On the TFC side, everyone is called Brice on the pitch. Indeed, all the purple jerseys are emblazoned with the name of this 28-year-old supporter, who fell victim to Serbian hooligans 15 years ago, during a Europa League trip to Belgrade. As a tribute, the match was kicked off by the nephew and niece of Brice Taton, while the Indians deployed a “BRICE” tifo on the corner which now bears his name. A wreath of flowers was also laid in front of the stands, in cathedral silence, even the Lyon supporters having interrupted their songs.

After their flamboyant celebration (literally) at the Capitol on Saturday, the Indians had promised a tribute to all the missing supporters. Thus, in the 31st minute, the group of supporters brandished a tifo “always with us” as well as cards and banners with many names, to the applause of the entire stadium.

A Toulouse first half

The Toulouse residents immediately seem on their feet. It’s even Yann Gbohoon a pass from a Vincent Sierro having just recovered a risky Lyon restart, which opened the scoring (14e). The striker went deep, flirting with offside, and fired a missile from the left towards the top corner. He celebrates with his teammates and sunglasses. Not vindictive, the Lyon supporters in the stands responded with a tribute on a banner “ Brice time passes, your memory remains« .

Toulouse plays intensely and almost doubles the mark (24e) but OL equalized with a gag goal during a rare moment of hesitation. Saël Kumbedi overflows and crosses on the defender Rasmus Nicolaisen who shifts the ball with his thigh and deceives his own goalkeeper (28e). Following this, Lyon regained momentum and even failed to take off from a corner (40e). Halftime score: 1-1.

Extraordinary atmosphere and stunning end to the match at the Stadium

Toulouse came back full of desire for a few minutes and failed to open the score from the restart. Then the match gets into a false rhythm where only the Brice team sometimes shines. At the hour mark, Lyon still hasn’t had a single shot on target. The entrance (65e) of Joshua King et Zakaria Aboukhlal revives the dynamic of the Violets. They begin to camp around Lucas Perri’s cages and multiply dangerous actions without finding the fault.

After an aerial clash between the goalkeeper gone and Joshua King (75e), the Brice Taton turn sets off purple smoke bombs which disperse all over the field and push the referee to interrupt the match. Enough to enjoy the songs and the new banner “to those who are absent: we will always bring your fervor to life”.

The Toulouse people push until the end to snatch a goal. Joshua King even believes he has the match point (90th +3) but Ferri bursts out at full length to save his team. In the process, Rayan Cherki makes the difference and allows Malick Fofana to fold the meeting.

This defeat adds one more match to the long list of Toulouse winless matches between the two teams. The curse has lasted for 10 years. The next TFC match will be at LilleSaturday October 5 at 7 p.m.
